ER.J.ORCHESTRA was established in 1989 in Kiev (Ukraine). The present band staff, finally completed in 1992, predominantly perform music of acoustic nature based on traditions of Slavonic melos, euro-american and oriental music. While refusing the direct citing, they prefer their individual sensation or their subjective conception on "musical source" to pure authenticity.
In original pieces one may follow the junction of ethnic, jazz and academic sounding . The pieces are also characterized by wide using of solo instruments, which frequently replace each other, processing the special peculiar emotional colours and shades of meaning. In other words, besides the general musical idea, the pieces possess an idea of each separate instrument which, if it can be expressed like that, "plays itself'.
Most of the musical critics are inclined to characterize the general style and aesthetic orientation of ER.J.ORCHESTRA creation as WORLD MUSIC. This, probably, explains the main credo of the BAND - music without boundaries.
"Being aside from the various pop-conveyors, ER.J.ORCHESTRA keeps doing genuine art".
("The dance with the unicorn" in Dom Kino" by A. Yevtushenko; "Music Courier", November 1992, #7)
"We see on stage really strong professional band which has its own individual sound combined with lucid and harmonious spiritual pyramid. And this means that they stepped onto period of maturity, consideration and confidence.
One of the most distinguishing feature of ER.J.ORCHESTRA is that everyone is a true personality and within the boundaries of common play there is enough space for everybody"... ("Pyramid of Er.J.Orchestra" or "Tea Ceremony" forever" by A. Yevtushenko; "AUT" #8,1994)
"There is a triad LIFE-LOVE-DEATH. And Love, being in-between Life and Death, derives its strength from both sources. We try to find this triad in art. Subject of our love is our audience. Therefore, the important moment for us is atmosphere, in which, as well as in intimate relations, you are influenced by smells, sounds - by everything. Complete devaluation of Spirit is impending over us. People are so constrained, self-concentrated. And we are trying to plunge them into the world of music and light where they would have an opportunity to sense another reality - the reality which is delicate, harmonious, close to the nature.
Music is streaming from everywhere. There is no more delight than turning stones, trees, walls into the Music.
(A. Dirdovsky, "Phonograph" #138, October 9,1991)
